"Yo listen up here's a story about a little girl* that lives in a blue world"... and is currently in the middle of packing up all her stuff together to take back to college, if you got that Eiffel 65 reference you are a pretty awesome person and deserve a pat on the back :) Because of the packing I have been living out of dresses for the past week, it is just so much easier to just throw on a dress than to pick and choose what shirt to wear with what pants as my whole room is turned upside down. Anyway, today I wore one of my favorite maxi dresses and since I am tall it is pretty exciting when my maxi dress aren't high waters on me, and this one isn't! The dress is from this website called Tobi.com which is just about the greatest online shopping site since your first purchase is 50% off and new arrivals, daily, are always 30% off! However, this is how the dress is displayed on Tobi.com. I love, love, love the back of the dress it is basically why I purchased it to begin. I personally don't wear a bra with this dress just because of how the back is and then the little opening in the front; I'm not really chesty person to begin with so it doesn't cause much of a problem for me. However, if you prefer to wear a bra with it I would suggest a nude colored sticky booby you know the ones that stick your side and are reusable. My favorite part of the outfit today was the jewelry I wore with it! Both of the bracelets are from Boston Proper but I just checked online and they aren't carrying them anymore but anything along this line of color and style would work. The necklace is a gift from Egypt but again any necklace that is big and chunky would work. This is definitely a dress that calls for accessories it's just too plain without it :)
****UPDATE: A lot of products from Tobi.com shrink so let them air dry! There is nothing I love more than pop culture references and witty phrases on my shirts, it really is a guilty pleasure and because of that I am not going to justify the purchases of these pieces by talking about something as obscure as "breathable cotton." These pieces of clothing are a few of my favorite things I have bought and since I like to categories and classify things, another "fun fact," this is my "bad a**" attire section of my closet. So without further ado here is a look into my closet. With this first piece as you can tell by the title is my Ballin' shirt and I can't exactly confirm who the original designer is because I see it on the ALEX & CHLOE website but I got my shirt in LA from Kittson and the tag says Brian Lichtenburg so take your pick. Regardless it is a fantastic shirt and both websites have many other versions like Homiés South Central, Féline Meow, etc. All of these shirts are play on words to the brand names of famous designers. The Homiés South Central shirt is a reference to Hermés Paris, Féline Meow to Céline Paris, and Ballin' Paris to Balmain Paris. Anyways, I bought the Ballin' Paris shirt in white and I absolutely love it, the fabric and all; I know I wanted to avoid the topic but it really is just so soft. I do wish I had bought the shirt in black though because I am so accident-prone but regardless, I could not be happier with the purchase. I should mention that the fit of the shirt is also very loose and not nearly as tight fitting as it looks in this picture up top but it is still a golden purchase. They also have a couple different styles to the shirt; you can get the muscle tee version, this razorback one, or a regular t-shirt cut. I am a big fan of black and white together but technically I don't see why you couldn't wear it with a red skirt but if you do that I would avoid adding another. This is how I styled my shirt. I kept all the colors really neutral, and of course black and white. My jacket was a vintage silver jacket, my short were faux leather shorts I got from Urban Outfitters and my flats where gold and from a brand called Report. My second purchase from Dimepiece was their "Starry Eyed Miss. Moss" shirt. I bought the shirt because Kate Moss is such a queen in the modeling world and I love her work therefore, it made sense, simple logic. It is worth mentioning the shirt doesn't come with the mesh underneath but that would be a solid addition to it. When I got around to purchasing the shirt it was "winter time" in Florida, I use that term lightly because winter in Florida is like in the 60s but still cold for us. However, the shirt was perfect for me to wear in college because it could easily pair it with leggings and it was an oversized shirt, unisex again, so it was perfect class attire because it has such a cool air to it yet it looks effortless. Plus the addition of my black Zara leather jacket added to the level of badass I was feeling in the morning and kept me warm during wintertime in Florida. You always have to end with a BIG bang and nothing says, "BANG" quite like a Biggie Smalls hat. I just purchased the order so it is still mid shipping but I am so excited to get the hat and wear! Biggie Smalls is my favorite rapper so I have to represent the east coast! I imagine this hat can be wore with whatever but I don't see myself pairing it with any of the shirts above because I think the two would be competing for attention. The only complaint I have about the hat is that I don't like the mesh fabric in the back of the hat I wish it was cloth all around but besides that I love how simple it is. For those of you who are Tupac fans, no worries Urban carries a Tupac version also.
This post is a few weeks too late but it is one definitely worth posting! Swim Week has to be one of the most exciting times in Miami because it basically sums up everything that is Miami and that includes the weather, rain or shine, glamour, bathing suits, and great Djs. The one quote that says it best is Shwayze, from his song "Corona and Lime," "Girls in Miami, street bikinis and bump techno by Dj Tiesto." During a fashion show there is nothing I enjoy more than checking out the latest trends while jamming out to a good playlist chosen by the designers! At Funkshion my favorite designer had to be Barraca Chic I loved their use of bright colors and color blocking it gave such a fun and youthful feel to basic two-piece and one-piece bikinis. The designers themselves are from Switzerland and that can be seen by their proud nationalism by have the closing piece be a red and white strapless one-piece and having the model carry a beach throw that had the Swiss flag on it. In addition to their proud nationalism the models had great energy the whole time and carried smiles, which the audience picked up on it. The designers of Barraca Chic made sure to include many different versions of bathing suit attire for both men and women. For men Barraca Chic gave an option for normal knee length board shorts as well as speedo style for the more risqué crowd, who prefer evenly tanned legs, and this gives them an advantage by giving them a bigger range of people to appeal to. During their show it was also impressive that the designers of Barraca Chic used "The Reckoning Song" as one of their songs so naturally I was jamming hardcore in the crowd. Another one of my favorites was MINIMALE ANIMALE, they have been one of my favorite bathing suit designers for the past year or so. Basically since I found out about them through popular singers that wore their classic "Palm tree on the boob" bathing suit in their music videos, Iggy Azalea and Miley Cyrus are among many. I love how MINIMALE ANIMALE is not afraid to take risks with their pieces by the use of mesh and giving the pieces cuts that aren't for your average bathing suit; this includes the use of high wasted bottoms, which is steeler because it is usually paired with a very retro cut top. MINIMALE ANIMALE is the quintessential perfect female bathing suit brand because it is sexy, it is edgy, and it is just all out women! I love that nothing about their brand is "traditional swimwear" the brand is constantly pushing its boundaries and style. The hair they had for the show was nice because it gave the appearance that the models just came from the beach onto the runway and I'm sure the models appreciated not having to wear heels!
This year like many past years MB Swim Week overlapped with Funkshion, both equally amazing events, however, I have to say I loved the location for Funkshion 10x more than MB Swim Week because Funkshion was at the SLS hotel and the runway was in the middle of the pool which just gave it such a cool feel along with the graffiti on the columns. The only downfall for the SLS was there was very few sitting area so waiting for the show in heels was killer but the shows turned out to be worth it. MB Swim Week for the most part took place in the Raleigh hotel tent, which had one big plus and that was that it was INSIDE because during swim week this year we had a mini hurricane in Miami with the constant rain fall. |
